JANUARY 10th: THE DARE PROGRAMME BEGINS IN DRONFIELD
DARE Training Officer Dave Scott has begun DARE Primary with the year 6 classes in 5 Dronfield Schools. The programme is delivered over 10 weeks in one hour lessons. In their first lesson pupils were given an introduction to DARE before exploring their perceptions about what a drug is, and understanding that we live in a society where drugs are widely used, including legal drugs (medicines, caffeine, alcohol and tobacco) and illegal drugs. The children also began to understand how all drugs can be harmful if they are misused.
The session concluded with an introduction to looking at self esteem.
More information about DARE Primary can be found on the DARE website
The club has undertaken to fund the programme for ALL year 6 pupils in the schools which feed into the Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School this year.

CHRISTMAS KEYS CONCERT
The club's project to offer the DARE programme to Dronfield primary schools has received a huge boost with the generous gift of £893 proceeds of Glyn Madden's Christmas Keys concert at St Andrew's Church, Pentland Road, Dronfield.
Glyn was joined by guest performers (and very good friends) Richard Bower and James Sargeant and we'd like to say a very big THANK YOU to them for giving their time and their talents to give everyone a wonderful evening of festive music as well as supporting DARE into Dronfield. They really are stars.

SANTA'S SLEIGH 2011
Members of the club have been out and about at Sainsbury's, Archer Road, Sheffield, with Santa's Sleigh. Thanks to talented musicians Glyn Madden and friends from the Darren Woodcock Keyboard School - especially Ian Joh - shoppers were treated to some fab live Christmas music as they arrived (and left). Santa dropped in to check up on how things were going and to wish the young at heart a Merry Christmas and received some last minute requests as well as assurances of good behaviour.
The shopping public were as generous as always and we collected over £1000 for Rotary charities - thank you to everyone who supported the collection.

THANKSGIVING DINNER
Mich Oglesby, our JVP, with Val and Jeff Oglesby hosted a splendid Thanksgiving Supper at their home on 11th December. They generously cooked a "monster" turkey with all the trimmings, made a selection of puddings to die for and kept the wine flowing. It was one of the most memorable Drone Valley dinner parties with 15 members, their partners and Oglesby family friends. We stayed at the table far longer than we should have due to the comfortable surroundings, enjoyable conversation, and a delicious cheeseboard.
Many many thanks go to Mich, Val and Jeff who generously donated the ticket price to Club funds. Mich's International charity Riders for Health will benefit.
